Walk it. Claim it.

Groundgrab is a territory game you play on foot. Walk your neighbourhood, claim the map beneath your feet, and hold on to it until someone else walks it.

How it works

The map is made of small hexagons. Walk over them and they become yours.

1

Start a walk

Tap start and go. Groundgrab records your route with GPS, and keeps going with your screen locked.

2

Cover the ground

Every hexagon your path properly covers becomes yours, and shows in your colour on the map.

3

Close a loop

Walk a route that joins back up on itself and you claim every hexagon inside it, not just the ones you stepped on.

4

Defend it

If someone else walks your hexagons later, they take them. There are no warnings and no take-backs. Just walk it again.

Walking only. That is the point.

Groundgrab only counts walking. Any stretch of a walk that is faster than walking pace, like running, cycling or driving, does not count. Our server checks every walk, and walks that use fake or simulated locations are rejected. Nobody gets territory from a bike.

Best with neighbours

Groundgrab gets interesting when people share the same streets.

Local rivalry

The more people walking your patch, the more contested it gets. Hold the park, lose the high street, take it back on Saturday.

Walking groups

Run or belong to a local walking group? Get in touch, and we will help you get started.

Simple by design

Sign in with Apple, pick a name, and walk. No passwords, no ads, nothing to set up.

Your privacy

A location game should be careful with location.

Your location is recorded only while a walk is running. Other players see your display name, your colour and the hexagons you own, never your route or your position. Raw GPS points are deleted after 90 days. There are no ads and no tracking software, and you can delete your account inside the app at any time. Read the full Privacy Policy.
